Prof. Stefan Palan, University of Graz

Stefan Palan is associate professor of finance and head of the Institute of Banking and Finance at the University of Graz as well as lecturer at the University of Innsbruck and at Management Center Innsbruck. He serves as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance, managing director of the Society for Experimental Finance, coordinator of the Finance Research Platform Graz, and scientific director of the Max Jung Lab Graz.

Stefan’s research focuses on human behavior in general and on human behavior in a financial context in particular. Using both lab and field experiments, he studies questions such as what makes us perceive certain investments as being risky, how to promote sustainable investments, and whether insider trading is really bad for financial markets. Due to his editorial work, he has recently also focused more and more time on studying and speaking about the peer review and scientific publication process and how to make it more equitable and fair.
